The name of our group is Dancing’s Our Poison (also known as DOP). Our group got its name when our three founders, Andrew Ton, Matt Manganti, and Edlene Fronteras, started dancing and sessioning together as friends. They gave themselves the name of DOP, which stood for Documenting Our Progress. Later, they decided to change the letters to stand for Dancing’s Our Poison, which has the message to “spread the poison” and to share your passion to the community, no matter what it is.
Our group began in 2009 with three Virginia Tech students, Andrew Ton, Matt Manganti, and Edlene Fronteras. The three shared a similar passion for dance and got together regularly to session and share pieces. They later added Jaime Milo, and eventually performed on Virginia Tech’s campus. Since then, DOP has held numerous free dance workshops on Virginia Tech’s campus to give back to the Blacksburg, VA community and to inspire people to find their passion, no matter what it is. DOP has held three seasons of auditions and is currently a group of 16 dancers.
DOP’s hometown is Blacksburg, Virginia.
Our group’s greatest accomplishment is our constant outreach to the Blacksburg dance community through our free weekly workshops.
Our group continues to do what we do because our passion lies in dance. We dance, not only for ourselves, but to inspire others to chase their own passion.
Others should support our group in order to help support the growth of Blacksburg’s dance community. In the past few years, we have seen Blacksburg’s dance community grow, and we hope to help continue its growth through our performances and workshops.
