CONGRATULATIONS COREY MOORE!
Corey’s T-shirt Design Submission for the Prelude DMV 2012 T-shirt Design Contest was selected to be the OFFICIAL Prelude DMV 2012 T-shirt! Make sure to pick up your own OFFICIAL Prelude DMV 2012 T-shirt in the Vendors’ area.

Here’s a little insight into the mind of Corey Moore:

Where are you from?
I am from Chase City, a small town along VA’s southern borderline.
What school did you attend?
I attended the Art Institute of Washington and I received my bachelors in Graphic Design.
Are you a part of any dance crews/companies?
I was fortunate enough to be part of Fierce Collabo and Afta Shock DC.

How did you conceptualize your T-shirt design submission?

I create the design by doing word associations, sketches, image researching, and most importantly listening to a lot of music.

Why do you feel your design best represents Prelude DMV?

"KODACHROME is…" just popped in my head, but honestly… Love, peace and happiness was going through my mind during the entire ordeal and I feel this will also be expressed at Prelude. (not sure if that answers your question LOL)

What are you most excited for during Prelude DMV Urban Dance Competition Weekend 2012?

EVERYTHING but mainly watching awesome dancers express themselves through dance. It is so inspiring-especially the kids… I want to be like them when I grow up. Also, the workshops afterwards and having the opportunity to learn and grow from choreographers that I look up to.

More dance related info:

First workshop was with Tony Czar at Dance Collective DC and I loved it—felt like something changed in me after that day.
First choreo youtube video that I tried to learn was Crown Royal by Zach Lattimore.
First instructor was Mama Lisa Geters-Norman at Strathmore on June 18,2008.
Recieved a scholarship for Culture Shock DC (2010-2011)
Was a workstudy at Joy of Motion (2010-2012)
Performed at ECDC preshow: Fierce Collabo (2011)
Performed at Joy of Motion studio to stage: Maurice Johnson (2011)
Performed with Eric Scott and Company
Trained to become a backup dancer for the talented Sherell Rowe (2011)

BY FAR THE BEST PRELUDE DMV ADVERTISEMENT (@EliteBeatCrew @TrungFu)

Note the detailed conceptualization and forward-thinking marketing trends used throughout the ad. The casting couldn’t be any more perfect. The profound, philosophical, poetic delivery of words can easily be compared to Aubrey Graham’s most recent literary masterpieces, i.e. The Motto, Find Your Love, etc.

(Youth Preshow Team)

DV8 Dance Academy (formally Virginia Hip Hop Academy). Is Ranked #1 IN THE NATION in competitive all-star hip hop dance in the Tiny. Mini, Youth & Open Age Divisions. DV8 Dance Academy was started to help kids in the Northern Virginia area have a place to receive positive guidance and encouragement from adults as well as their peers. This positivity has paid off in many ways. Members of DV8 Dance Academy are not allowed to practice if they have a GPA below 2.0 and are not allowed to compete or perform if there GPA is below a 2.5. The goal is to teach the kids that you can have all the talent in the world but if you don’t have the education behind it you will always be left behind. We have been featured on Showtime at the Apollo, BET, Fox 5, Paula Abduls: Live to Dance and even had a clip shown on the OPRAH WINFREY SHOW. With all that being done we have so much more that we will accomplish. The word Deviate means “to depart from the accepted norm or standard” and that is how the members of DV8 are taught to live there lives.

Introducing: Splittin’ Image
Purchase Prelude Tickets at preludedmv.com
Team Code: CT014

What is the name of your group? In addition, how did your group get its name?
The name of the group is Splittin’ Image.  Our name was developed from the idea that dance and dancers can be different parts of the same picture and that each dancer can portray different characters.

What is the history of your group? In addition, why did your group form?
The group was originally formed as a performance favor for a friend and has changed over the years from an all guys’ crew to be what it is current.

What is your group’s hometown?
The dancers are from DC, Maryland, and Virginia.

What do you feel are your group’s greatest accomplishments to date?
Performing at Joe’s Emporium Movement where we were displayed a different style of show to a mature crowd that is not a typical performance from a DMV area based dance crew, winning the Live at the Sound Stage award for best live performance, and placing second in Prelude 2011.

Why does your group continue to dance?
We continue to dance to give each member a voice and a vehicle to develop and to be who they want to be as an artist.

Why should the others support your group?
Others should support us because we value the importance of support for artists across the board and feel as though it should be mutual.  A respect for and high value we place on art, ours and others, is what should garner support for us.  We created an out path based only our desire as individuals, not from a mold of anything.

Introducing: CREWcial pt I
Purchase Prelude Tickets at preludedmv.com
Team Code: CT005

We are CREWcial from Hampton Roads, VA. Our name came from a name brainstorming session. Many were put into consideration, but jokingly “CREWcial” was thrown in and ended up being the name we chose.

What started as a group of friends coming together just to dance and hang out, friendships and connections were made and CREWcial was eventually formed.

Our accomplishments: The fact that we have stayed together for going on four years but still maintain our initial mindset is probably our greatest accomplishment. As far as dancing goes, we have all grown tremendously over the years but it is more than that. We have formed such a strong bonds with each other; friendships that will last a lifetime. Members have come and gone but our love for dance and for each other will remain the same.

We continue to dance because it is our creative outlet and it’s what we all have in common. No matter where we are, what we’re doing or where we’re going in our lives, dance will always be that passion shared between us and will always bring us back to each other. Simply put, we truly love to dance.

We continue to dance because we feel we are “CREWcial” to the DMV dance community (see what we did there?). But all jokes aside we feel as though we are good representations to what dancing is about. It comes solely from our hearts and everything else comes after. We want to improve our craft and share with others but we will always be family first.
